MCB: One Child Groomer Is One Too Many – Communities Must Unite for Stronger Safeguarding

Assistant Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain, Dr Naomi Green, said:

“We welcome today’s sentencing of Rochdale’s Mohammed Zahid and his accomplices, found guilty of group-based child sexual exploitation. Justice has been served.

One groomer is one too many, and every perpetrator must be held fully accountable. The Muslim Council of Britain has always made it clear: sexual violence against women and girls in any form is unacceptable, and the sexual grooming of young women and girls is a heinous crime that has no place in any community, no religious justification and no room for excuses. We must never allow the actions of a few to tarnish entire communities nor allow fear of prejudice to silence our responsibility to act.

We continue to call for stronger safeguarding measures to protect our youth and for all CSE abusers from any ethnic, religious or other background to be swiftly brought to justice. This is a shared duty. Only by working together, across communities and often outside of our comfort zones, can we ensure every child is kept safe, every victim receives the support they need and every abuser faces justice.”
