MCB Statement: Autumn Budget Impact for Low & Middle Income Families

11/26/2025 62 views

Today’s Autumn Budget announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves brings some welcome steps for British people struggling in the current economy, we particularly welcome the scrapping of the two-child cap, which has long deepened hardship for many working-class families. Scrapping the two child cap means the policy will result in an estimated reduction of child poverty by 450,000 by 2029/30. The uplift to pensions will also offer relief to older people living on modest, fixed incomes. However freezing tax thresholds and reducing incentives for savings, risks adding further pressure on households already struggling with the rising cost of living. For this Budget to be genuinely fair, the Government must go further to support low-income and middle-income families and protect pensioners who need stable, predictable incomes and support during this cost of living crisis.
