MCB Statement: Palestinians Killed in Israeli Strikes Violating Ceasefire

The MCB is calling on the government and international community to hold Israel to account for violating the agreed ceasefire conditions and for the increasing brutal violence inflicted on Palestinians in recent days. Gaza’s health ministry has reported that more than 300 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect, an average of more than seven people a day.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) and international humanitarian organisations have highlighted the deteriorating conditions as winter hits. The living conditions amidst ongoing brutal attacks are horrific. Displaced families across Gaza lack basic shelter, food and access to healthcare yet Israel continues to prevent vital aid, medical supplies and shelter from entering Gaza.

A recent Human Rights Watch report also highlights that the Israeli military’s displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Reflecting a wider pattern of making life untenable for Palestinians across historic Palestine.

“The Muslim Council of Britain calls on the UK government and international community to step up and take action to bring Israel to account as it repeatedly violates yet another ceasefire. Israel has acted with impunity for far too long and the international community has failed to hold it to account for past and current actions. Enough is enough. The UK can no longer stand by and tolerate the routine killing of Palestinians. The UK must act now to prevent genocide, as required by Article 1 of the 1948 Genocide Convention; to delay this risks breaching its own obligations and complicity to the crime it is bound to stop.”
