Visit My Mosque 2025: Flying Our Flags for Friendship – Telling Our Stories

09/29/2025 61 views

“Our Stories is about showing that being Muslim and being British are not separate identities, they are part of the same story.” – Dr Wajid Akhter, MCB.

[London, UK – 29TH September 2025] – Around 150 mosques across the UK will open their doors to the public this October as part of Visit My Mosque 2025, a national initiative coordinated by the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB).

Now in its tenth year, Visit My Mosque will take part on the weekend of 4th and 5th October 2025 and has become one of the UK’s largest faith-based open days, welcoming thousands of visitors from all faiths and none. Launched in 2015 with just 20 mosques, the initiative has grown into a nationwide event that encourages dialogue, builds trust and shows how mosques are part of everyday British life.

This year’s theme, “Our Stories”, focuses on the real, everyday contributions of British Muslims from running food banks and youth projects to offering life-saving skills training and community support. It’s about celebrating shared values of compassion, service and care for our neighbours.

Dr Aamir Shamsi, National Coordinator of Visit My Mosque, said: “As we celebrate ten years of Visit My Mosque, Our Stories is more important than ever. At a time when anti-Muslim protests and rising Islamophobia risk dividing our society, this initiative is about something deeply human: ordinary people meeting, talking and understanding one another.

The contribution of British Muslims runs far beyond our own community, it’s in our schools and hospitals, in businesses and charities, shaping the everyday life of this country. Visit My Mosque is about opening our doors and creating real conversations on the ground, where trust is built and stereotypes are broken. And when we do that, we see the truth: that what unites us is far greater than what divides us because we are already part of the same story.”

Mosques across the country are embracing this theme in their own way:

At West London Islamic Centre, Visit My Mosque is part of a broader commitment to inclusion. Zahra Hanif, volunteer, says: “Muslims are and have been involved in every level of society in Ealing for many decades. We want our neighbours to see that their stories and ours are connected. Together, we build a stronger, more caring community locally in West London.”

At York Mosque and Islamic Centre, the message is simple under the theme Flag-Bearers of Unity: Tea, Talk and Shared Values. Ammar Sacha, Imam of York Mosque, says: “Being Muslim and British go hand in hand. Our Stories reminds us that our faith and friendships grow side by side. Visit My Mosque is an open invitation to be part of that shared story.”

Celebrating Our Stories – Photo Competition

To mark the tenth anniversary, the MCB is launching a Photo Competition showcasing how mosques connect with their communities.

We’re inviting people to submit photos capturing acts of service, community life, local initiatives or youth projects. Winning entries will be displayed on our website and social media, with a prize awarded to the best image.

  • Include your name, mosque name, location, and a brief description.
  • Share entries on social media tagging @muslimcouncil.uk and using #VMM2025 #OurStories #OurNeighbourhoods #flagsunderfriendship

Visit My Mosque 2025 is about opening doors and sharing stories. When people meet, talk and learn from one another, barriers fall and friendships grow. This October, mosques across Britain invite you to come as you are and be part of Our Stories.
