In July 2017, a number of British tabloids, namely, the Daily Mail, The Sun, Daily Express and Daily Mirror published articles claiming Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku was unable to pick up a Man of the Match award on the basis he was a “devout Muslim” and therefore “unable to pose with alcoholic gifts”. He is in fact, a devout Christian, and many readers pointed out the fact that Lukaku could regularly be seen making a cross sign on his chest both before matches and during goal celebrations.

The purpose of these articles are questionable, and one might even ask whether the article would have been published in the first place had these tabloids known to publish accurate stories.
