The Muslim Council of Britain is pleased to welcome Black History Month 2024. This year’s theme, “Reclaiming Narratives,” highlights the true stories of Black history and culture, celebrating the untold achievements and complexities of Black heritage. Black Muslims have been integral to both British and Islamic history, enriching our communities and culture.
The MCB published a landmark report highlighting Black Muslim voices across British society, emphasising the need to not only change narratives but also address racist and structural barriers that hinder inclusion.
Marking Black History Month, MCB Secretary General Zara Mohammed said:
“Black History Month is an important time to reflect on the outstanding individuals, communities, and voices from Black Muslim communities who continue to lead efforts in tackling racism and building a more inclusive Britain.
There is still much work to be done, both within our communities and across wider society, to improve diversity and representation, tackle Islamophobia, and enhance economic opportunities for young people.
The MCB remains committed to supporting this crucial work with communities across the country.”
