Today the Muslim Council of Britain sends its condolences to the families of two British Muslims who were tragically killed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Islam’s holiest city, last Friday. They had embarked on the pilgrimage which is obligatory on every Muslim at least once in their lifetime, if they can afford it.

Kamran Khan, from Slough, was assisting his mother who was in a wheelchair. Qasim Akram, a father of four from Bolton was killed in the crane crash hours after arriving with his parents in Makkah, his parents are believed to have escaped without injury.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon (Indeed we are from Allah, and to Him we return)

They both returned to Allah, while serving their parents and God, in Islam’s holiest centres of worship. May Allah give them and all those who passed away the best place in Jannah (paradise) and sabr (patience) for the families to bear this loss.

Each year around 3.7 million pilgrims from around the world travel to Makkah to participate in Hajj, including thousands of Britons. We pray for all those embarking on the pilgrimage to have a safe journey there and back, and pray for the acceptance of their Hajj.
