On 25th May 2016, both the Daily Mail and The Sun had published an article with a headline linking an honour killing with Islam. The Daily Mail’s title read, ‘Mother of four stabbed to death while her family were at a funeral ‘may have been murdered in Islamic honour killing”, whilst the Sun similarly published a headline ‘Mum-of-four butchered while caring for her young kids as cops probe Islamic honour killing lead’

After this was challenged by the MCB highlighting how honour killings have nothing to do with the faith of Islam, both MailOnline and The Sun edited their headlines in July, with MailOnline changing it to ‘Mother of four stabbed to death while her family were at a funeral ‘may have been murdered in honour killing”, and The Sun, ‘Mum-of-four butchered while caring for her young kids as cops probe ‘honour killing’ lead’.

They also added a clarification on the page saying:

‘An earlier version of this article said that police were investigating whether Ms Khan may have been murdered in an ‘Islamic honour killing’. We are happy to make clear that Islam as a religion does not support so-called ‘honour killings’.
