The attack by a gunman on a full synagogue during Yom Kippur services, is an abhorrent and heinous anti-Semitic hate crime. The shooting represents another in the worryingly growing number of incidents against places of worship across Europe. Two people were killed after the gunman was unable to gain entry to the packed synagogue in Halle, Germany.
Harun Khan, Secretary General of the MCB said, “We stand shoulder to shoulder with our Jewish brothers and sisters while they come to terms with the terrifying realisations of an attack that could have had even more horrific consequences.”
“Places of worship should be kept safe and sacred, and it is clear that they are being used as targets by the growing menace of the far-right. We must do what we can to protect people of faith from such terror.”
