Starting today, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) will join the world in celebrating International Women’s Day. The theme of #EmbraceEquity will be at the core of all celebrations.
MCB Secretary General, Zara Mohammed, will mark the occasion with a series of events dedicated to bringing together and celebrating British Muslim women, starting with an online event hosted by the MCB – ‘Inspiring Young Girls‘. It will be followed by a tour of in-person events in cities across the nation, including Birmingham, Leicester and Manchester.

Commenting on this week’s celebrations, MCB Secretary General Zara Mohammed said:
“I look forward to celebrating International Women’s Day with Muslim women and girls across the country, coming together over our shared successes, hopes and dreams, whilst also recognising the challenges we face.
“British Muslim women have made incredible strides across all sectors and spaces, including: politics, sports, law, education, healthcare, and business. This is in spite the significant challenges Muslim women still face, particularly in relation to gendered Islamophobia, discrimination in the workplace, negative portrayal in the media, and barriers within communities.
“This International Women’s Day, let us celebrate the achievements of Muslim women and commit to striving for a society that embraces equity and inclusivity for all.”
The MCB remains committed to our work in promoting greater inclusion and representation of Muslim women in society, delivering key initiatives such as the Muslim Women in Leadership programme and Women in Mosques.
