The Muslim Council of Britain calls on Britain and the international community to discharge their responsibility and end the current siege of Gaza. The Israeli fuel blockade has plunged the whole Palestinian territory in darkness and encompasses all aspects of human life. This is a gross violation of international law. UNRWA, the United Nations organisation that supports Palestinian refugees, has said, `The logic of this defies basic humanitarian standards’.

Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, called on the Foreign Secretary to use his influence to prevent this humanitarian crisis reaching catastrophic proportions with adverse international consequences. “When we have even the United Nation warning of the dire situation in the Gaza Strip, we cannot standby. It is the responsibility of all peace loving people in the world to respect and adhere to international law and civilised norms of behaviour. It is wholly unacceptable that the government of Israel is allowed to carry out its unreasonable, unjust and disproportionate policies against the people of Gaza. It is time for the government of Israel to be held to account.”
