At the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), we are deeply concerned about the rise in hateful rhetoric that seeks to divide our society. At moments like this, all Britons need to stand firm against intolerance and build a better, united future.
As one reminder puts it: “We can do well in this country. We will have difficult times; we’ve had difficult times in the past; we will have difficult times in the future.” These words ring true for us today. We know the challenges are real, but so is our resilience and our capacity to come together. We call on communities across the country to remember these three steps:
1) STAY SAFE
Avoid taking unnecessary risks and do not escalate tensions. Look after yourself, your loved ones, and those around you.
2) SPEAK UP
The best way to counter a narrative of hate is with a stronger, more truthful one. Share your voice, your story, and your values of compassion and justice.
3) STAND TOGETHER
Hate thrives when communities are divided.
By uniting across communities, backgrounds, neighbourhoods and faith groups we become stronger than those who wish to sow fear. Together, we can ensure that Britain remains a place where dignity, respect, and justice prevail for all.
