The Muslim Council of Britain wrote to the Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss MP, asking the UK government to speak out against the ongoing violence and discrimination against Muslims in India.
Writing to the Foreign Secretary, MCB Secretary General Zara Mohammed said: “Just as the government has taken firm line against genocide of Muslims in China, we ask the same admirable stance is taken against the disturbing situation…in India.”
In recent years, Indian Muslims and other minorities have been subject to levels of systemic discrimination, hate speech, mob violence and lynchings, whilst also facing threats to their places of worship.
Zara Mohammed said:
“We call on our government to urge the Indian government to give assurances that the rule of law will be followed and minorities protected. Similarly, our government must urgently ensure that divisive extremists are not allowed or supported in this country.
