MCB Commends Popda Society for Annual Event: Celebrating History and Community

MCB Secretary-General and Assistant Secretary-General, Dr Shahzad Amin were delighted to attend, Popda Society, annual event in Birmingham, Sat 2nd July.

The event brought together key community figures, academics, educators and community members for an afternoon of insightful talks, food and networking.

During the event, MCB Secretary-General shared a keynote address, highlighting the importance of remembering those early community pioneers who set up the building blocks of what we today benefit from. Mentioning the need to continue to build confidence for future generations as the landscape changes for British Muslims. Finally commending the Popda society for an excellent event and for reaching this great milestone.


 
Abdul A Ravat, General Secretary of The Popda Society and a Member of MCB’s ReDoc Committee explained: 

“The Popda Society was founded in 1958 and on Sunday 2nd July it celebrated its Get Together and take stock of its social impact as a charity. 

The Society has delivered significant social and economic impact both in the UK and in India, particularly in the village it derives it’s name from, with surplus generated from its investments assets and growth.  This includes delivering affordable housing, supporting the construction of vital communal facilities, training and employment programmes, education support, healthcare and so much more. 

We were all delighted that MCB could attend this event and impress on our youth their collective dual heritage”.  

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our affiliate, the Popda Society for organizing this wonderful event and for their commendable work in combating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
