MCB congratulates its affiliate, the Muslim Community Association, on the delivery of their Community Service Awards
The Awards were organised by the Muslim Community Association (MCA), with the support of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre, The United Kingdom Islamic Mission (UKIM) and Islam Channel.
Given the pervasiveness of Islamophobic sentiment, the issuance of these awards, is more necessary than ever. It is important that we recognise and celebrate those that actively help foster a sense of belonging, trust, respect and togetherness within, and between, communities.
The Award categories included:
1. Community Cohesion
2. Community Engagement
3. Education and Development
4. Community Welfare
5. Justice and Equality
Prominent winners and runners-up included: Baroness Sharmishta Chakrabarti, Rt Hon Dominic Grieve, and the late Neil Jameson.
Our thanks to Sheikh Musleh Faradhi, MCA Central President, for his touching words and remarking on the importance of partnership and communities working together.
Having presented the award for Community Cohesion, MCB Secretary-General Zara Mohammed also shared a note of thanks, expressed the need for ongoing work to tackle the critical issues of our time and emphasised the importance of communities coming together in pursuit of the common good.
The Awards also recognised pioneering community leaders who have been allies to the Muslim community in addressing hatred, division and Islamophobia.
The event was attending by cross-section of community groups, political leaders, interfaith groups and prominent activists.
