The Muslim Council of Britain is deeply saddened by the sudden death of Charles Kennedy, former leader of the Liberal Democrat party.
Dr Shuja Shafi, Secretary General of the MCB said, “Charles Kennedy was a giant among politicians who stood for what he believed and chief among them was his stance against the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Whilst all major political parties supported the invasion against the clear will of the British people as evidenced by hundreds of thousands of Britons who marched to protest, Charles Kennedy stood out as a people’s politician.
Whilst the nation is rightly mourning the loss of a popular and principled politician, it is his family who will miss his departure most and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
