The MCB Secretary-General and Assistant Secretary-General attended and participated in a panel discussion organised by the National Association of Muslim Police (NAMP) in association with the West Yorkshire Police, as part of Islamophobia Awareness Month on tackling Islamophobia and discussing ways to improve engagement and understanding in policing.

The event brought together a diverse panel addressing critical issues, from the recruitment and retention of Muslim officers to the need for accessible prayer facilities as standard practice. The discussion also covered the importance of accurate terminology and how political narratives can lead to misinformation and confusion about Islam and Muslim communities in the UK.

The Secretary-General met with several Muslim officers, including a veteran officer with over 35 years of service who shared the challenges faced by Muslim officers internally and the vital role they play in ensuring community safety, particularly as knife crime among young people has become a growing concern.

Reflecting on her recent visit to Southport, the Secretary-General highlighted how important the role of the police was in safeguarding mosques, especially in during the riots this summer.

We extend our gratitude to NAMP for facilitating this meaningful discussion and look forward to furthering initiatives that promote inclusivity, mutual understanding, and unity across our communities.
