The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has written to Chief Constable Rob Nixon QPM, regarding the recent NPA Commanders Award for Recognition of service given to Dhirendra Shastri.
Mr. Shastri’s public image as someone who promotes views that are divisive and harmful to Muslim communities goes against the very essence of fostering unity and harmony.
Dear Chief Constable Rob Nixon,
MCB Express Concern of Police Award to Dhirendra Shastri
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express deep concern on behalf of our affiliates and community members in Leicester regarding the recent awarding of the NPA Commanders Award for Recognition of service to Dhirendra Shastri.
Mr. Shastri’s public image as someone who promotes views that are divisive and harmful to Muslim communities goes against the very essence of fostering unity and harmony.
I acknowledge the statement that has been issued to offer clarity on this matter, however, I must emphasise the strength of sentiment this award has generated. Our aim is to continue to work collaboratively with you and Leicestershire Police to foster an environment where communities can come together, build trust, and actively contribute to the safety and well-being of our neighbourhoods.
It is imperative we understand, for the benefit of our affiliates and the wider community, how this error in judgement occurred.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Zara Mohammed
Secretary-General
Muslim Council of Britain
