Our leadership team was in the home of our Secretary-General for a special visit to our Scottish affiliates, the Muslim Council of Scotland among others.

We started our visit with a special tour of Glasgow Central Mosque, where we learned about the mosque’s history and its role in the community. The discussions with the mosque’s chair highlighted the vital role it plays in the local Muslim community, providing a range of services to local refugee groups, regular food bank, health initiatives and elderly care. The mosque is the largest in Scotland and one of the oldest purpose built in the UK, with thousands of worshipers coming weekly.

Our team met with Scotstoun Islamic Centre and Masjid Umar, at their purpose-built mosque which they have worked very hard to fundraise for serving some of the most diverse communities in Scotland, with many of the congregations coming from global communities, different languages and many of them are young. They showed us their state of the art schooling program and building all designed to promote education and learning.

A pivotal part of the visit was the high-level meeting with leaders and representatives from mosques across Scotland, facilitated by the Muslim Council of Scotland and hosted by one of our founding affiliates, Al Furqan Mosque in Glasgow. The discussions were comprehensive, covering post-election Muslim engagement, key projects, ongoing campaigns, capacity building for mosques, and the eagerly anticipated Visit My Mosque initiative.

We’d like to thank MCS Convenor, Dr Adrees Muhammad, and Dr Javed Nadvi for hosting. We were deeply honored to have founding members including Dr Javed Gill, Haq Ghani and Molana Shah Sahib.

An excellent meeting up north with our Secretary General heading to Aberdeen next!
