MCB Marks 29th Anniversary of Srebrenica

Today, we commemorate Srebrenica Memorial Day, marking 29 years since the Bosnian genocide, where over 8,000 Muslim men and boys were brutally killed in a few days. To date, many of the victims of this heinous attack have not been discovered.

This year’s theme, ‘I Am Because You Are,’ highlights the necessity remaining united against hatred, discrimination, harassment, and prejudice. On this solemn day, we remember the innocent lives lost and stand in solidarity with survivors and victims’ families.

MCB Secretary-General, Zara Mohammed remarked on the occassion:

“Today marks a somber anniversary, a genocide so close to home in which more than 8000 Muslims were brutally killed and communities torn apart due to hatred.

I have visited the graves at Srebrenica and met with the widows, their stories are not forgotten and remain scars on our history and a lesson that we cannot allow this to ever happen again.

Yes today, we see more killing and catastrophe all over the world, the harrowing scenes in Gaza, killings in Sudan, we hope our Government will do more for long term peace, remembering Srebenica.”
