Today, we join in observing Srebrenica Memorial Day. It marks the 28th anniversary of the Bosnian genocide, in which over 8000 Muslim men and boys were systematically killed within the span of a few days. To date, a significant number of victims have not been found.

On this solemn day, we pray for the innocent lives taken and stand in solidarity with survivors and the victims’ families. May justice and peace be yours.

The theme for this year’s Srebrenica Memorial Day is ‘Together We Are One.’ It reminds us of the strength in unity and the importance of coming together as a global community. We are also reminded of how that  unity and collective strength is key to challenging the horrors of unchecked hatred and prejudice, the inevitable violence it unleashes.

On this Srebrenica Memorial Day, let us also recommit to learning from history, tackling hatred and prejudice in all its forms at its root and building a world where diversity is celebrated, justice is upheld, and no community suffers through such pain and darkness again.
