
MCB Secretary General, Zara Mohammed met with the First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, addressing the pressing concerns surrounding the tragic loss of innocent lives in Gaza, given the ongoing violence and resulting humanitarian catastrophe.
Their conversation delved into the urgent call for an immediate ceasefire, emphasising the profound impact of the conflict on communities in the UK, and in Scotland.
Expressing gratitude for the First Minister’s leadership, SG Mohammed commended his commitment to addressing critical issues and being a powerful voice for the situation in the middle east at this time, one of the first political leaders to call for a ceasefire.
In their exchange, the Secretary General expressed warm regards to the First Minister on his family returning home after being caught in the siege in Gaza.
There was a shared understanding of the necessity for a ceasefire and the recognition of its repercussions on communities, fostering a sense of urgency and commonality. The First Minister’s commitment to combatting Islamophobia and promoting harmony resonated deeply.
Furthermore, FM Yousaf reinforced the importance of community cohesion and interfaith collaboration, pledging support for the MCB’s efforts in these endeavours.
