It has been brought to our attention that the Belfast Islamic Centre, an affiliate of the MCB has been attacked again today, following an incident with Britain First a few weeks ago.
Worshippers found parts of a pig left at the mosque today.
This incident follows several faced by Muslim communities in Belfast including women being threatened, messages of hate being received by the mosque on social media, an increase in racist graffiti and more.
The Belfast Islamic Centre is a great beacon of community cohesion. The mosque regularly takes part in #VisitMyMosque day and is open to all in Belfast. Incidents such as this one create fear and division- the opposite to the values embodied by Belfast Islamic Centre.
A member of the mosque committee said: ‘It concerns us that there are people out there determined to stir up hatred and division where there are none. Many people in NI are welcoming and tolerant but the brazen attitude of the xenophobes worries us.’
Harun Khan, Secretary General of the MCB said, “There is no place for such hate within our society. The fact this is not the first such attack, means swift action needs to be taken to ensure the safety and security of the mosque and the surrounding community.”
