MCB Secretary-General was delighted to receive an invitation to join MCB affiliate, the Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic Centre for a programme of events and an evening talk

It was wonderful to meet Dr Ibrahim Alwawi (Imam), sister Azeezah (Trustee), sister Kamariah Ismail (Trustee) and Dr Abdalla Mohamed ( Trustee and MCB NC member).

SG Zara was given a tour inside the Mosque, after which she attended a reception with the trustees of AMIC and the Chair, Br Marauf Razak.  The Chair shared the story of how the new building had been purchased and the vision to develop the space to include gym facilities, cooking classes, more creche facilities catering to everyone in the community.

SG thanked the Imam for his dua’ and warm speech for her success and the success of the MCB.

• Before Friday prayer she had lunch with the sisters group at AMIC, each shared their story of arriving in Aberdeen and setting up a community where Muslims could feel at home, how they had set up fundraisers like the weekly food stall.

• At 2:00 pm SG Zara  had a TV interview with STV outside AMIC building, where she shared the purpose of the visit and the great example Muslims in Scotland were showing to build bridges with the  wider community.
• At 3:00 pm she visited Alhikmah Mosque, Aberdeen and met representative leaders of the mosque lead by brother Iftikar Ali who gave a comprehensive history to the mosque and showed her and the accompanying group the inside of the building.

• Thereafter she visited Syed Shah Mustafa Musjid at Crown Terrace, Aberdeen. This is a unique mosque because it is connected to a church and famously opened its doors to Muslims praying outside on Friday to pray in the church instead.

SG Zara met the mosque representatives lead by  Imam Rahul Amin and Imam Dr Emad  Judah who welcomed her and showed her and the group the mosque facilities.

She spoke about the MCB mission, and they discussed Islamophobia and Islamic banking. At the end Imam Rahul Amin thanked her and made a log duaa wishing her and the Muslims the best.

• She thanked them and returned to AMIC where she gave a talk at 6:30 pm entitled: “The Muslim communities in the modern world.” The main part of discussion about the challenges facing British Muslim communities today and how we can build a vision to support communities in the future.
