It has been widely reported that children at New Stevenston Primary School in Motherwell had been given factually incorrect and very divisive homework sheet asking them to give examples of Palestinian “terrorist activities”, together with a picture of an explosion.

Whilst North Lanarkshire Council have apologised “unreservedly”, confirming that “the description of Palestinian people is entirely inappropriate”, this has raised a real concern amongst the Muslim community that such a misrepresentation of the Middle Eastern conflict may be being taught elsewhere in the UK.

As a result, the MCB wrote to the Director General for Educational Standards at the Department of Education, Ms Shona Dunn, to raise this issue of concern on a national level.
