Muslim Council of Britain Congratulates HM The Queen on 70 Years of Service
The Muslim Council of Britain today congratulated Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee. The Queen has been a point of unity for the country and has served this nation for over seventy years.
Zara Mohammed, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain said:
“On behalf of our affiliates, I congratulate the Queen on this Platinum Jubilee. At this moment of celebration, we remember how the Queen devoted her life to public service and sought unity among British communities. Over these seven decades, her United Kingdom has changed dramatically, and she can be proud to witness now its multicultural and multi-faith diversity. Three million Muslims now call Britain home, Many were born in this country.
Though the first British mosque was seen in the Victorian era, the Queen was the first monarch to visit a UK mosque during her Jubilee celebrations in 2002. Audiences at events and ceremonies hosted by the Royal family reflect the diversity of Britain. Prior to gaining full independence, the Queen was the Head of state of several Muslim countries. Her early years were subsequently involved in forging deeper and respectful ties with Commonwealth countries, including many Muslim nations in Africa and Asia. The Queen laid the foundations for her heir apparent, Prince Charles, to champion greater understanding with Muslim communities here in the UK and around the world. Long may her legacy continue.”
