The Muslim Council of Britain today condemned the attack on a Harlow mosque that took place over the weekend. Worshippers discovered a blaze, apparently ignited deliberately, on the early hours of Monday morning, 26th August.

Farooq Murad, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain said: “Thankfully nobody was hurt in this attack. It was only on Friday when I visited the same centre in Harlow, and I hope this incident does not deter the Muslims of the community in Essex in carrying out their good works.”

He added: “Last month, I wrote to both the Home Secretary and the Communities’ Secretary about the dramatic escalation of Islamophobic and anti-Muslim violence since May, highlighting the need for a national response to these activities. This latest attack underscores that need. This is not the time to rest on our laurels.”
