The First meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) took place on Saturday 28 March at the Council Chambers of Brent Town Hall. As well as members of the 53 – strong committee a number of persons from throughout the country, who were active in the formation of the MCB, were in attendance.

The meeting saw the setting up of three main sub committees to carry out the MCB’S work over the next two years; Finance and General Purpose, Media and Research & Documentation.

Additionally, various task groups, made up of Community experts and professionals, were set up to investigate the needs of the community in fields such as Education, Employment, Health, Social and Welfare and Legal affairs. Policies and programmes will only be based on thorough research, clear strategies and the availability of resources, the meeting emphasised.

In keeping with the MCB’s aim to promote consultation, co-operation and co-ordination within the Muslim community these task groups were encouraged by the Secretary General, Iqbal Sacranie, to be inclusive of specialists and experts throughout the community.

The next Central Working Committee is scheduled to take place on Saturday 20 June in Leicester.
