On Tuesday 19 January, the House of Commons will vote on an amendment to the UK Trade Bill relating to genocide, sponsored by Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP and Nus Ghani MP. The amendment has already passed by the House of Lords earlier this week with a majority of 129. It seeks to promote a UK trade policy that upholds Human Rights.
There is mounting evidence that the scale of the atrocities being committed by the Chinese Government against its Uighur Muslim citizens amounts to genocide. This is all while UK companies appear to continue to be purchasing vast quantities of goods manufactured using forced labour in Xinjiang and other regions of China. Therefore the Muslim Council of Britain has issued a 1-page briefing to MPs urging them to support this amendment.
