Saturday 25th October 2014 will mark the Islamic New Year for Muslims across the globe. As we enter this year, we hope for peace and unity across Nations.
As the New Year marks the blessed journey made by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), it is a great time to reflect upon what Prophet Muhammad stood for and what he taught. He epitomised great leadership, upholding truth and justice, advocated equality and was conscious of the needs of others. These are just some of the values we can seek to uphold in our everyday lives.
The New Year begins with the first day of the month of Muharram. The 10th day, known as Ashura, is a day on which according to our traditions, when Prophet Musa (Moses) was saved from the Pharaoh. Ashura is however commemorated for the tragic massacre at Karbala, in Iraq in 61 A.H. of Imam Husain, his family and supporters.
