Commenting on Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visit to the UK today, Dr Wajid Akhter, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain said:

“As President Herzog visits the UK, we ask: will our elected leaders merely pose for photographs while his government continues illegal annexation of the West Bank and presides over the genocide in Gaza or will they finally speak up for justice and accountability?

The British public deserves principled leadership. Yet this Government continues to issue hollow statements expressing ‘concern’ for Palestinians, even as it warmly welcomes those responsible for their oppression. It should trouble us all that figures presiding over such atrocities and breaches of international law are received with ceremony rather than scrutiny and accountability. The Foreign Office’s stance on Palestine-Israel has become increasingly contradictory and indefensible.”
