ESG-screened supplier list public

Assesses whether the organization maintains a supplier register screened against environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria and publicly discloses a list of key/strategic suppliers (or an aggregated view for sensitive contexts). It evaluates the commitment to an ethical supply chain while managing security, commercial confidentiality, and GDPR compliance through a 'maximum transparency, minimum necessary data' approach.

UnitPercentage / Date
Maturity Levels
Level 1: Initial/Ad-hoc

No ESG screening process for suppliers exists.

Level 2: Developing

An informal, ad-hoc process for screening some suppliers exists, but lacks standardized criteria, risk-weighting, or documentation.

Level 3: Established

A formal policy screens >50% of spend. The list is maintained internally with annual re-screening for high-risk suppliers.

Level 4: Advanced

Screening covers >80% of spend or 100% of high-risk suppliers. A list of key/strategic suppliers is publicly disclosed (redacted where justified) and updated annually.

Level 5: Optimizing

Comprehensive screening (>95% spend) with third-party verification for high-risk entities. A dynamic, publicly accessible register details performance/ratings and drives supply chain collaboration.

By Organisation Size

SizeApplicabilityNotes
Micro exempt No significant procurement budget; formal ESG screening and public supplier lists are entirely disproportionate.
Small exempt Minimal spend; formal procurement processes, contract clauses, and public registers are disproportionate.
Medium optional May implement basic supplier checks, but public registers and strict ESG contract clauses are a nice-to-have at this scale.
Large partial Expected to have formal procurement and ESG screening, but a fully public register and strict spend coverage metrics can be scaled down.
Major full Applies fully; major charities have significant supply chains requiring formal ESG screening, contract clauses, and public transparency.

Applicable When

  • The organization has a supply chain
  • The organization publicly promotes its values (e.g. environmental or social justice)
  • The organization is of sufficient size to require a formal supply chain management process

Not Applicable When

  • The organization operates solely on volunteer labor and donations in kind and does not procure any goods or services.
  • The organization is a very small entity with minimal operational needs and direct oversight over all suppliers
