Environmental Education and Awareness Initiatives

Assesses whether the organization conducts structured, evidence-based environmental education and awareness initiatives for its community, evaluating its commitment to raising awareness about environmental responsibility from an Islamic perspective while ensuring regulatory compliance. Such initiatives reflect the duty of Tarbiyah (education and nurturing) to cultivate a deep understanding of Khilafah (stewardship) over the Earth. By fostering ecological consciousness, the organization honors the sacred Amanah (trust) of preserving creation, empowering individuals to actively participate in Hifz al-Bi'ah (environmental protection).

Maturity Levels
Level 1: Initial/Ad-hoc

Environmental awareness is ad-hoc and reactive. Occasional, informal mentions of environmental topics may occur, but there is no structured program or dedicated initiative.

Level 2: Developing

The organization conducts isolated or infrequent environmental awareness activities (e.g., an annual Earth Day talk). These activities are not part of a formal plan, lack consistent Islamic framing, and do not measure impact.

Level 3: Established

A formal environmental education program is established with at least one annual initiative. A measurement protocol (pre/post quiz) is defined, and Islamic content is signed off by a scholar.

Level 4: Advanced

The program is integrated into core activities (≥2 initiatives/yr). Effectiveness is measured against targets (e.g., ≥40% awareness gain), accessibility is fully evidenced, and PDCA improvements are implemented annually.

Level 5: Optimizing

The organization is a recognized leader (≥4 initiatives/yr, reach ≥300/30%). It demonstrates high impact (≥60% awareness gain, verified behaviour change), shares toolkits/training with others, and engages in cross-sector partnerships.

By Organisation Size

SizeApplicabilityNotes
Micro optional Formal documented plans with KPIs and scholar sign-offs are disproportionate for volunteer-run groups; informal awareness is encouraged.
Small partial Can conduct annual awareness, but formal documentation like KPIs, risk plans, and verified scholar sign-offs should be significantly scaled down.
Medium partial Expected to run initiatives and have a basic documented plan, but complex KPIs and formal sub-committees (e.g., Green Claims) may be scaled down.
