Mentoring programs (youth or adult)
Assesses the availability, structure, and safety of mentoring programs for youth or adults. It evaluates the organization's operating model, commitment to safeguarding (children and adults), individual development (tarbiyah), and social connection, ensuring compliance with UK law and Islamic ethical standards. Rooted in the prophetic tradition of nasiha (sincere advice) and suhba (righteous companionship), these initiatives actively facilitate tazkiyah (spiritual purification). Such structured guidance strengthens communal bonds and nurtures lifelong moral excellence.
Assessment Questions
- Is there a formal, documented mentoring program for youth or adults? If so, describe its goals and target audience.
- Does the organization maintain an 'Eligibility & Checks Matrix' for DBS/vetting of all mentoring roles?
- What adult safeguarding procedures (incl. Mental Capacity Act screening) are in place where applicable?
- What 'Digital Delivery Standard' controls are used (platforms, audit logs, moderation)?
- How are mentors supervised? Is there a Supervision SOP with a defined ratio (e.g., 1:15) and documentation?
- How is the effectiveness and impact of the mentoring program measured (e.g., validated scales, Goal Attainment Scaling)?
- What governance reporting is in place (e.g., quarterly trustee dashboard for safeguarding/KPIs)?
- How does the organization ensure GDPR compliance (Art 6/9 lawful basis, RoPA, data sharing agreements)?
- How are lone-working and venue risks mitigated (e.g., public settings, visibility, two-adult rule)?
- How are consent and parental consent obtained and recorded for U18s?
- How are complaints, concerns, and serious incidents reported and learned from?
- How do you ensure accessibility and non-discrimination (Inclusion Plan)?
- What is the structured closure/transition process and referral to specialist services when needed?
