Formal Staff & Volunteer Wellbeing Program

Measures the implementation of a formal, risk-based wellbeing program for all personnel. This reflects the leadership's duty of Riʿāyah (care) and Raḥmah (mercy), and the obligation of Amānah (trust) to safeguard people. The program integrates safeguarding and people risk management, addressing psychosocial hazards (e.g., burnout, trauma) to prevent harm (Lā ḍarar wa lā ḍirār). It advances the maqāṣid by protecting life (Hifz al-nafs) and intellect (Hifz al-‘aql), ensuring workloads align with the Qur’anic principle of ease (Qur’an 2:185) and operational resilience.

By Organisation Size

SizeApplicabilityNotes
Micro exempt No SLT or formal line management; formal HSE stress assessments and EAP DPIAs are highly disproportionate for volunteer-led groups.
Small partial Basic duty of care and informal wellbeing support apply, but formal HSE stress assessments (legally required for 5+ staff) and SLT leads are disproportionate.
Medium partial Documented policy and HSE stress risk assessment are required (5+ staff), but the SLT lead role and formal EAP processes can be scaled down or combined.
Large full Fully applicable given the presence of formal HR functions, an established SLT structure, and a larger staff base.
Major full Fully applicable; a comprehensive and formal wellbeing program is essential for a large workforce and complex operations.

Applicable When
